A few days ago foreign-backed militants belonging to the Free Syria Army desecrated the tomb of Hujr ibn Adi in the town of Adra, located west of the capital Damascus.
Militants raided the mausoleum and transferred his remains to an unknown location.
Ibn Adi – a close companion of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and a loyal supporter of the first Shia Imam Ali (PBUH) – led the army of Muslims to victory in several crucial battles. He was martyred along with his son and several companions in 660 CE at the hands of the Umayyad ruler Muawiya ibn Abu Sufyan due to their firm loyalty to Imam Ali (PBUH).
The shrine of Hujr Ibn Adi Al-Kindi was reportedly ransacked and desecrated by members or associates of the Syria Free Army, which was formed in 2011.

“The shrine of the great companion, Hujr Ibn Adi, is one of the most important shrines for all Muslims, and violating and digging his grave in this way reveals a terrorist and criminal mentality that does not respect neither Muslim nor Christian sanctities,” Hezbollah added.
In a statement, The European Council of Jamaats said that the destruction of the shrine was “not solely a matter of grave concern for the Shi’a [but] concerns Muslims worldwide.”
