Writers of the Islamic Movement brainstorm in Zaria/ Pictures

Writers’ Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under His Eminence Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky on Friday at the Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria, began a three-day annual conference ( May 8-10, 2015), which featured the cream of the Movement’s writers from all genres, prose narrative writers, poets and translators.

 After intensive deliberation on creative writing morning of the second day, the first speaker was Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu from Bayero University, Kano who spoke on the history of writing and publishing in human.

Professor Abdallah Uba Ahmad who was represented by Malam Nasir Wada Khaleel discussed the history of writing through discovery of historical images over 400 years in a cave in France.

He went through historical analysis to present how writing transformed from imagery, numerical and symbolic expression which represented unspoken words.

According to the speaker, when writing took its present form, Imam Ali (AS) was the first man in history to evolve Nahwu, which gave words grammatical significance and lessened ambiguity.

Second speaker, Shaikh Muhammad Mukhtar Sahabi spoke on Literature and Poetry, the Islamic Perspective, citing historical references, Qur’anic verses and hadith.

He cited Sahifah Sajjadiyyah of Imam Ali Zainul Abideen (AS) as an example of sublime poetry that is a book of prayer and compendium of Islamic message, all in one.

Shaikh Mukhtar Sahabi also discussed the poetic messages of Uthman Bin Fodiye and Abdullahi Gwandu, transmitted through ages.

He therefore called on writers of the Islamic Movement to use their God-given talent in promoting the cause of the Movement at all times.

 

Third speaker in the series, Malam Yakubu Yahaya Katsina spoke on the influence and significance of writing in the society with a call for caution from writers.

 He pointed out that writing has been as old as human blood in human veins, adding that, “The sole aim of writing is to block bad culture and instill good ones”.

According to him, good writing is among the legacy one can bequeath to the society, because he has left behind a message and documented learning process beneficial to the society.

“Ideas are sustained through writing and history is also preserved”, said Malam Yakubu Yahaya.

A writer, whose writing maintained and preserved good moral conduct and religious principle earns greater reward before Allah. It is said, the ink of a writer outweighs blood of a martyrs”.

He therefore advised writers to be sincere, objective and avoid sensation.

 

Prominent writers such as Adamun Adamawa, Ibrahim Daurawa spoke on their areas of specialization, and questions were asked on the subjects.

Renowned Poet, Bello Shehu Mafara made the session lighter with poetry recitation.
