THE ONLY THING CERTAIN IN NIGERIA IS UNCERTAINTY
The Resource Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has opened its 7th annual conference on Friday 14th October, 2011 at the Baqiyyatullah Husainiyya, Zaria.
The chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Dr Isa Mshelgaru made the welcome address. The opening ceremony was attended by the participants as well as other members within and outside the Movement. The national coordinator of the Resource Forum, Dr Abdullahi Danladi, made the opening remarks before a short presentation by the invited guest of honour, Dr. kabir Tsafe.
Dr tsafe, who is the Director, Arewa house, Kaduna, observed that the only thing certain in Nigeria is uncertainty! He pondered on where this country, Nigeria, is heading to. In tracing the history of Nigeria, he recalled the comments made by the leader of the Islamic Movement, Sayyid Zakzaky (H) on Nigerian history. The comments were made some years back at the Gamji Gate in Kaduna in one of the annual maulud sessions organized by the Resource Forum. He remembered Sayyid (H) as having said that the entity called Nigeria today was not in existence before, it came to being and there would be a time it would be another thing either by addition or subtraction.
Dr Tsafe said that the problem of Nigeria is beyond “gather, discuss and disperse” only. It involves “you” as a person: what can you do to bring about change? He explained that he cherished the Islamic Movement and continues to follow closely its activities for the last 26 years or so. His main reason being the fact that it is only the Movement that has the ideology of change through real sacrifice against all odds. He emphasized the importance of charting a common goal despite our differences.
He also observed that governance in this country has deteriorated to the extent that the yard stick is geopolitical zoning. He observed that this was not used even by Jews. Justice, wisdom, foresight etc are supposed to be the yardstick. The chaos is thus unprecedented. He finally advised for consistent dialogue to bring people of different backgrounds closer. There should be more ways for closer interactions.
