The International Quds Day

By Malam Yusuf Abdullahi.

In the name of Allah who states “Glory be to Him Who made His servant to go on a night from the Sacred Mosque to the remote mosque of which We have blessed the precincts, so that We may show to him some of our signs; surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing” Q17:1

Peace and blessings be upon His chosen servant, our master, Muhammad and his purified progeny.

Of a blessed memory, Imam Khomeini gave an open invitation to Muslims and by extension to the world on August 7th, 1979.”I invite Muslims all over the globe to consecrate the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, which is a day of fate and which could also become the day on which the fate of Palestinian people might be determined as Quds day and to proclaim the legitimate right of the Muslim people of Palestine”

Popularly referred to as the day of the oppressed, the International Quds day was declared by the Imam to express solidarity and global support to Palestinians and other oppressed people of the world. Since, the day was observed through processions, conferences and rallies by nations, human rights activists, and civil liberties organisations across the world.

More than any other time, the world witnesses unending bloodshed in the Muslim world covering Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Central African Republic, Algeria, Sudan and Nigeria among others.

As usual, this year’s event was observed in America, Europe and other parts of the world by people who want peace to reign and justice to prevail all over the world.

Israel was declared after the Second World War that ended in 1945. November the 29th was a landmark in its history and was promulgated and recognised by the Western powers in 1948. Prior to that, it was nonexistent and out of record. However, with that development, Jewish leaders, particularly Israeli Premier, David Ben Gurions, pleaded for Jews all over the world to move to it.

Zionism, a movement developed in late 1800’s, united the Jews and saw the forceful creation of the illegal state in place of Palestine, then occupied by only five percent Jewish inhabitants.

To quote from Zariani Abdul Rahman’s book -HITLER AND THE WANDERING JEW, 1994, “Just a few days ago the diplomacy of the dignified and handsome Semitic Prince Faisal Abdul Aziz Al – Saud was lost on the hysterical crowd of New York Jews who were bent on literally spitting HRH. Nine centuries ago, while Christian Crusaders were burning Jerusalem’s Jews alive in their synagogue, it was the Muslim Saladin who kindly brought back Jews to Jerusalem, along with his Muslim followers. And 800 years later, within the UN Headquarters in flushing Meadow, New York, this was how the Muslims were paid back for their past kindness to the Jews.”

Apparently, America was the consistent negotiator and chief architect of all road maps regarding the domination of Palestinians by Israel or what others ignorantly refer to as the middle – east conflict. Whoever wishes could visit such talks/accords since 1948 to date. Was any tangible achievement made over six decades? In fact, America is accused of double standard, defending Israel even in the extremity with its veto power.

Then, in whose interest does it work? If you look at the other side of the conflict, it is very clear that arms deals is a very gainful trade to the American manufacturers in particular and the West in general. Through such consistent bloody crisis, they easily trade arms to the warring parties. In fact, the conflicting parties highly compete in such trade on capacity and arms sophistication. In fact, the available statistics displays that about 70% of the arms used in the Middle East are purchased from America and Saudi – Arabia makes the highest deal.

In addition to this, the unfortunate situation provides gainful engagement to their people, particularly security personnel, who receive huge amount of allowances in the name of training and consultancy.

After the last offensive attack against Gazza, a special appeal fund was launched at Egypt for rebuilding, where a $5.4 billion pledge was made with one billion dollars from Qatar, attended by American envoy, Norway Prime minister and United Nations secretary general who spoke as the chief custodians of the fund. The fund was launched consequent to the Israeli offensive that killed more than two thousand with over ten thousand injured.

Beyond doubt, over 80% of those killed were civilians, mostly women and children as ascertained by the United Nations office for coordination of International affairs (OCHA) and other recognized world human rights groups. The mayhem was in addition to the effects of the seven years blockage of its inhabitants.

On the destructive effects of the Israeli offensive, most parts of Gazza has been destroyed for which billions of dollars are needed to rebuild. In fact, with an estimated supply of 100 trucks of building materials, Gazza will need several years to rebuild!

Now with over $5.4 billion dollars pledge, whose company do you think will be awarded the construction works? The American and Israeli companies of course. So did they have anything to lose? It is the Ummah that loses and continue to lose while America, Israel and the West gain in multi – faceted dimensions!

The attack on the last year’s Quds day procession in Zaria continues to draw attention for a number of reasons. Firstly, the perpetrators of the murder were the Nigerian military in the Jonathan – led government who murdered 34 in the broad day light including three biological undergraduate sons of sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and a Christian, Julius Anyawu, in addition to over 100 others wounded in the attack.

Secondly, we did not witness any significant response from the government despite calls from prominent Nigerians, organisations and the International community on the need for justice to its end.

Thirdly, there is an obvious need for a decisive action by the present administration on the perpetrators of the crime especially with the latest report of the Amnesty International that indicted the military of extrajudicial killings and war crimes.

Mr. John Danfulani, convener Of the Centrum Initiative for Development And Human Rights Advocacy had this to say during the tragedy:

“We therefore condemn in the strongest of terms, the shooting and killing of peaceful protesters in Zaria on the 25th of July, 2014 and call for a full independent investigation of the Zaria killing by bodies charged with monitoring and reporting of human rights violations. Governments in Nigeria must know that the dark days of ruling with impunity are over and have no place in democracy. The chief duty of the state is to protect life and not take it away without authorization by the body responsible for snatching away life from citizens. We want to use this opportunity to thank the leader of Shiite in Nigeria, Malam Al -Zakzaky for his restrain and calm disposition to the great loss of his sons and members. We will work with him and his organization in their quest to seek for justice on the QUDS procession incidence. And we pray to God to forgive the souls of those killed and grant them Aljanna”.

Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, founder of leadership holdings, while registering his condolence to Sheikh Zakzakyalso said “we commend your leadership attribute and the dignity you exemplified. We wonder how many leaders could contain this (loss) and remain calm even when they lose three of their children this way. We are very proud of this attribute. If leaders were like you, the world will be a better place to live” he said Nigerians should never keep silent in the face of this atrocity saying that it is dangerous to remain silent in this situation.

The sheikh has expressed gratitude and appreciation to all those who extended their condolences personally or by whatever means, and prayed to Allah to reward them abundantly.

Many thought the Arab league formed in 1945, aimed to strengthen ties among member states, could coordinate their policies and protect their common interests. But what were the achievements of the league? To what extent did the league and its sister Palestinian liberation organisation (PLO) achieve their stated objectives? The question is how could the Arab league and PLO, established on the basis of Arabism or Nationalism lead to the emancipation of Palestine while the same Nationalism was used to destabilize the old Ottoman Empire and establish Israel in its place? No doubt, the Quds day in solidarity with Palestinians is very significant and the only measure towards liberation of al – Quds, the first direction of Muslim and historic site of the Ummah.

Unity is the force behind the call of this great Islamic personality that the enemies are always afraid of, and working to destroy. Allah states “And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves” Q3:103.

George Curzon, the British Secretary of state for foreign affairs, 1911 – 1921 said “we must put an end to anything which brings about Islamic unity between the sons of the Muslims. As we have already succeeded in finishing off the caliphate, so we must ensure that there will never arise again unity for the Muslims, whether it be intellectual or cultural unity”

That is why the spiritual leader of the Islamic revolution in Iran, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamne’ maintains that the ISIS or ISIL clearly serves the American interest in the middle east, accusing any cooperation with the US to resolve the Iraqi or Syrian situation of sowing discord and divisions within the region. Why should not the countries of the region resolve their problems? Must they need American intervention, not to talk of leadership for that? Recently, as the US threw weapons to Kurds for Kubani protection, they said the ISIS have captured them, escalating the crises.

For quite long, the middle – east suffers from one problem or the other. That is why the global Muslim awakening conference is carefully organised and convened by the Islamic republic to enlighten the world on that.

Therefore, our solution and glory lie in solid unity and strict adherence to the teachings of the noble Qur’an, hence the rationale behind the International Quds day as declared by the Imam of the Ummah.

Finally, while urging the Ummah to hold fast the spiritual and social lessons of Ramadan, I wish all happy Sallah celebrations.
