The Islamc Movement in Nigeria marked annual Martyrs ( yawm Shuhada) in Abuja on Saturday the 21st of March 2020. The annual commemoration, which is organised together with Martyrdom of Imam Musa Alkazim (alahis salm) is organised to remember those killed at different times since the beginning of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Sheikh Zakzaky.
The gathering was attended by family members and friends of the matrys as well as the members of the general public. The Chairman of the Shuhada Foundation of the Islamic Movement Sheikh Abdulhamid Bello Zaria was the guest speaker who spoke on the activities of the foundation in taking care of the families and dependents of the matrys. The foundation gets its fund through contribution from followers of Sheikh Zakzaky and well wishers. Some of the activities of the Foundation include sponsoring the education of the martyrs’ children from Primary to Tertiary level, financial support in terms of feeding and accommodation and skill acquisition programmes among others. In 2015 during the Massacre in Zaria carried by Nigerian armies over thousands of people including women and children were either killed or missing. With this the number of families under the care of the Foundation has blown out of proportion which made the foundation’s resources inadequate to support its activities thus calling on the general public to give support.
