Shias attacked in Kirfi/Pictures

By Khalid Idris Doya
Obviously worried by the growing number of the Shias in Kirfi town, on Friday 26 Zulhijjah 1436, some hired thugs armed with dangerous weapons attacked Muslim Brothers of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria while holding a sermon on Friday. The attacks injured 29, many of whom were women who came out to ascertain the situations of their husbands.

A representative of the movement in the town, Malam Yusuf Ahmad was also critically injured in the incident, as he was attacked with machetes and various types of weapons.

The attackers were said to be sponsored and armed by some powerful people in the town.

Soldiers who rushed to the scene offered to carry the victims to hospital, but the victims declined for fear of the unknown.

Brothers and Sister of the Islamic Movement have been carrying out their programs in the mosque for the past 20 years, but only recently some undercover forces began to plot sabotage to dislodge the Shi’a in Kirfi through disruption of the peace.

According to Malam Nuruddeen Aliyu, representative in Alkaleri said that there had been series of undercover plots to contain the increasingly growing numbers of Shias in the town, but with Allah’s intervention, "we are always able to nip the problems in the bud."

A peace meeting was convened under the auspices of traditional council, security agencies and prominent personalities in the town to broker peace, and a tentative peace plan was achieved that demanded the temporary suspension of the Friday.

Nothing was however said regarding the demand for punishment of the culprits of the mayhem.

Observers say that the tentative peace reached by the traditional council was sabotaged by the same people that made it, as it was the royal chiefs and politicians in the town who organized the attack.

On his part, Chairman of the local government and Divisional Police Officer have promised to look into the problem, in order to curtail emerging threat to lives.

The Islamic Movement is however calling for justice, that the culprits be brought to book.
