RUHULLAH AL – KHOMEINI: IN REMEMBRANCE OF GREAT IMAM OF THE UMMAH!

By Malam Yusuf Abdullahi
In the name of Allah who states "O soul that art rest! Return to your Lord, well – pleased (with him), well – pleasing (Him), So enter among My servants, And enter into My garden" Q89:27-30 May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon His chosen servant, our master Muhammad and his purified progeny. Let me start by congratulating the leader of the Islamic movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky on the event of his 64th birthday.

I  pray for Allah’s continuous guidance, special protection and  manifestation of his sublime yearning of seeing justice firmly established in this country, and the world in general.

By the will of Allah, I will write on the blessed life of the master of our age, the twelfth successor of the noble prophet, Imam Muhammad Al – Mahdy, may Allah hasten his reappearance, that of the Sheikh and the rationale behind the Islamic movement. I will also congratulate the Ummah on the advent of Ramadhan, – the month of fasting – in which Allah bestows forgiveness and mercy. We should be fully prepared for this spiritual training with aim of drawing near  to Him through self – restraint. Allah states “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you that you may learn self – restraint (Al – taqwa)” Q2:183 The piece of this week is on the 26th commemoration of Imam Khomeini’s demise, 6th June, 1989. No doubt, the Imam was a great man of Allah who demonstrated his love and obedience to Him. He apparently  struggled against the enemies of Islam and their local and international stooges to a successful end at this era of advancement in science and technology.

But for the Islamic revolution he led, no one could tell the destiny of Islam and Muslims especially in the Middle – east now! Like the Arab world, the world could evidently remember how Iran was completely subservient to America in the days of the deposed Shah killing all sectors of the economy, especially farming through an MoU with Israel in what they termed white revolution. But with the success of Islamic revolution, the story was different as the West is scared of the indefatigable stand and ever – developing trend of the Islamic republic on his will. In remembering the blessed life of the Imam, I will briefly highlight some lessons. In the light of a lengthy quote in the historic response to a London Times correspondent on what kind of Muslim was the Imam? The leader of Islamic revolution and founder of the Islamic republic stated "My belief and that of other Muslims are the same issues that the Qur’an contains or those that have been uttered by the prophet of Islam (pbuh) and by the rightful authorities after him.

The root and essence of all those beliefs which are our dearest and most valuable beliefs is monotheism. According to this principle, we believe that the creator of the world and of all beings in the universe, including mankind is the one and only Exalted, Allah Who knows all and is capable of all things, and to Him belongs all things and objects. This principle teaches us to be submissive only before the power of Allah and to obey no man unless obeying him is tantamount to obeying Allah. On the basis of this principle, no individual has the right to force any other man to submit to him.

Furthermore, this principle of faith teaches us the principle of human freedom, that is no man has the right to deprive an individual or community of liberty, to legislate for them, to regulate their conduct according to his own understanding of it, which is generally defective, or regulate the conduct of others according to his wishes or desires. Still more, from this principle, we came to believe that legislation for man’s progress is with Allah alone, just as the laws of creation and being are willed by Him. Man’s happiness and perfection and those of the communities are dependent on obedience to divine laws of which mankind is informed through the prophets (pbut). Man’s degradation and fall is due to deprivation of his rights and his submission to other human beings. Therefore, man must rise against these fetters and chains of bondage and to challenge those who invite us to servitude, and to liberate ourselves and the community so that we may all be servants of Allah and submit ourselves to Him. It is for this reason that our social rules and regulations begin with opposition to despotic and colonial powers.

Also, from this principle of faith and belief in monotheism, we get the inspiration that all men are equal before Allah, who created them all and all are His creatures and servants. This is the principle of equality of men and that man’s only distinction and preference to one another rests in their virtue and freedom from distortion and guilt. Therefore, all the things that upset this equality and institute vain and nonsense distinctions in the community must be fought against"   With firm and sincere faith in Allah and his messenger Imam led the most successful revolution in history saying "the revolution owes nothing to any group, I have often declared that I have entered in no brotherhood pact with anyone, regardless of their position or status. The framework for my friendship lies in the honesty and veracity of each individual" The woeful failure of the war imposed on Iran (1980 – 1988) by the Saddam’s administration with full support of the West and Arab countries has beyond doubt demonstrated the help of Allah to the Imam. With the overwhelming support of America and petrodollars Arab countries, Saddam and his masters confidently miscalculated defeat of the overstretched Islamic republic within short period promising a global press conference at the capital Tehran. While the Iranian armed forces was evidently incapacitated, lacking spare parts and necessary military equipments for combat along with highly scorned  revolutionary guards  led by religious authority with very little or no military experience,  the Saddam’s military buildup campaign comprised an army of 190,000, equipped with 2,200 tanks, 450 sophisticated aircrafts and other latest Western and Soviet manufactured military equipments! Using Saddam, the imposed war came immediately after the success of Islamic revolution with the sole aim of destroying it.

However, Allah the omnipotent proved the enemies wrong with embarrassing defeat after eight years. Phebe Marr, a renowned analyst in the Middle – east stated "the war was more immediately the result of poor political judgement and miscalculation on the part of Saddam Hussein," and "the decision to invade, taken at a moment of Iranian weakness" The reasons linking the war to border dispute and ordinary rupture of diplomatic ties between the countries were baseless. It was intentionally created to destabilize the Islamic republic, leading to masaccare of innocent souls estimated at 1.5m!. Evidently, the Imam has prophesized the global rise of Islam which the enemies can never stop, and of course, humiliating death of Saddam in the hands of his American masters. In contrast to the widespread political joker of some Sunni that the Shi’ah abuse prophet’s companions, they are always at the forefront in defense of the personality of the noble prophet and Islam in general. The Imam’s irrevocable verdict arousing the Muslim world on Salman Rushdie is still enlightening when the white house controlled Riyadh was carelessly busy with under seventeen world cup! It was the same Shi’ah under the Islamic movement that protested the blasphemy not only in the Salman’s case but Nikola’s,  Charlie Herbdo’s and many local instances in Nigeria. Allah said "Surely, We will suffice you against the scoffers" Q15:95 Appreciably, the Imam has living words ascertained by his enemies. And some of his significant legacies in the Ummah include; THE UNITY WEEK The greatest problem facing the Ummah is disunity. Based on this, the Imam introduced the Unity week to debunk Takfiri philosophy whose mission and their Western masters is to mock Islam and intimidate Muslims. Allah stated “Be not  like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving clear signs; for them is a clear chastisement” Q3:105  George Curzon, the British secretary of state for foreign affairs, 1911 – 1921 said "we must put an end to anything which brings about Islamic unity between the sons of the Muslims. As we have already succeeded in finishing off the caliphate, so we must ensure that there will never arise again unity for the Muslims, whether it be intellectual or cultural unity"

Allah stated “And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves” Q3:103.  The event is commemorated annually in Rabi’ul – awwal. History is a living witness on the commendable support given to the Imam by the great Sunni authority Sheikh Mahmud Shaltut (may Allah have mercy on him) leading to a closer tie in this direction. THE INTERNATIONAL QUDS DAY The rationale behind declaration of the day was to express unflinching support and solidarity to oppressed Palestinians by the Zionist occupiers. Declared in 1978 as the last Friday of every Ramadhan, the day is commemorated through processions, rallies and conferences. Popularly referred as the day of the oppressed, the International Quds day is observed across the world including Washington, Paris and Central London. MUSLIM AWAKENING CAMPAIGN This is part of the grand Muslim awakening campaign on the dangers detrimental to the entire Ummah especially on doctrinal bases promoted by the enemies beside physical attacks and conspiracies for the control and domination all over the world.

The campaign is continuous and organised periodically by the Islamic authorities in Iran and Iraq to which Muslim scholars and intellectuals are invited across the world. Most interestingly, the Imam led a very simple life setting good example not to his successors alone but all political and working classes in the republic. I shed tears during my visit to his Northern Tehran rented apartment with all powers and influence at his disposal! Finally, I will conclude with part of his farewell message, "…with a heart that is calm and confident; with a joyous soul and a conscience hopeful of Allah’s graces, I take my leave from brothers and sisters, and journey to the eternal abode, and I very much need your good prayers. I ask the Allah, the Benevolent to accept my excuses for inadequate services, and I ask the nation to accept my excuses for my shortages and inadequacies and to move forward with force, determination and will" While urging the Ummah to embrace the teachings of  this great Islamic personality, I pray to Allah to shower His endless mercy on the Imam and protect the Islamic republic from the multi – faceted tricks of its enemies.

Wassalamu alaikum!
