Brothers and Sisters of the Islamic Movement in Kano were brutally attacked by the Nigeria Police, Kano command on Sunday 5th November, 2017 at Dangi roundabout in the metropolis. In the unprovoked attack on the peaceful citizens who used their constitutional right of assembly, a brother and two sisters were killed by those constitutionally mandated to protect them.
Those innocently murdered were Umar Ahmad Gano, a father of one, Malama A’isha Ibrahim, a mother of four and Husaina Dr. Dauda, a 200 level student of Civil Engineering from Bayero University. Of the three martyrs, only the female corpses were in the custody of the Movement as the brother was carried away by the attackers. In addition to the high number of casualties, many were arrested including women. Brothers and Sister of Islamic Movement in Nigeria were on the annual symbolic trek designed to terminate outside the metropolitan city in commemoration of the fortieth global day mourning of the atrocity on Imam Husain (AS), the grandson of the noble messenger Muhammad (S) and few band of his followers, who were equally murdered by the evil forces of Yazid at Karbala -Iraq- in 61 AH.
It could be recalled that the same people were brutally attacked by the same Command in the last year’s event at Karfi where about thirty members were massacred including an eight months old baby, Zainab Abubakar Fagge. Most of those killed are yet to be handed over to their families for proper Islamic burial. Beside those wounded, many were arrested and the unjustified cases are still pending in courts.
As the aftermath assessment reviewed, we want to make it categorically clear that we need our corpse or corpses handed over to us, those arrested either wounded or not unconditionally released, and those responsible in the murder of the peaceful citizens brought to book. We also call on the civil liberties organisations, human rights agencies/groups and the international community to ensure justice is done on yet another atrocity against peaceful and defenseless citizens who used their fundamental freedom of religion and association violating no law!
We use the medium to reiterate the urgent need for the unconditional release of the IIslamic Movement leader, Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his disciples.
Signed:
Yusuf Abdullahi 16th Safar, 1439 AH (6/11/2017)
