On Saturday 15/12/2018, armed Police security agents have again teargassed and fired peaceful members of the Islamic Movement in the city of Kaduna, protesting for the freedom of their leader who had been in illegal detention for over 3 years despite a federal court order to release him since December 2016.
The protest kicked off this afternoon at about 3:00p.m. at Leventis roundabout, along Ahmadu Bello way, the Kaduna metro police, lead by the representative of the zone Sheikh Aliyu Turmidhi.
It marched peacefully for some metres away from Leventis through Ahmadu Bello and finally to Kano road where it was planned to be terminated.
At a spot were the protest was heading to the Kano road, Police security agents started attacking the protest with teargas and gun shots. They spent over 30 minutes shelling teargas and firing at the peaceful protesters.
Even passersby and traders suffered from their senseless actions, where they shot teargas to innocents traders around and passersby.
An eyewitness informed us that, the Police were stationed at a particular spot around cooperative along the Ahmadu Bello way with their weapons.
This was quite a deliberate action by the security agents with a view to inciting the anger of the public on peaceful members of the Movement.
Till the end of the attack on Saturday, we have not yet confirmed arrest of any member of the Movement. But it was also reported to have said that the security agents embarked on manhunt of the protesters around the streets. They later started a to and fro Movement along the Ahmadu Bello way, with high level of serene, intimidating passers and traders.
It could be recalled that, Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife had been in illegal detention for over 3 years despite a federal order to release him after the court had acquitted him of any crime since December 2016, but Nigerian authorities remained adamant to this rulings.
In spit of what had been preceded, they are still attacking members of the Movement on their moves to peacefully protest for their rights and the freedom of their leader.
