The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Jigawa state, today invited leading brotehers of the Islamic Movement in the 14 local government headquarters for a meeting whose reason has not been made clear.
The invitation was sent through the various Divisional officers of police in the 14 district headquarters, though without any clarification of whether they are being charged or accused of committing any crime.
What has been baffling members of the Islamic Movement about this extra ordinary whole scale invitation is, it has never happened in the state or elsewhere in the past.
Security analysts fear this is not the beginning of police profiling based on religion. This invitation smacks off that the officer think a person is committing some sort of crime simply because they are of a certain race, culture, religion etc.
This police stereotyping is coming on the heels of the fact that Jigawa state has never witnessed any religious crises before the advent of the new police Commissioner.
