The Shuhada Foundation of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria held its annual Martyrs Day on Sunday the 27th of February 2022 in Abuja. Family of martyrs, relatives, friends and associates were in attendance where activities of the Foundation were highlighted from last year to date.
Its activities and responsibilities includes taking care of families and dependents of the martyrs in terms of education, health and wellbeing and skills among others.While explaining the Foundation’s activities Professor Abdullahi Danladi said the Foundation has a total number of 1064 martyrs who attained martyrdom at various times leaving behind 2316 children, 600 widows and 1298 aged parents since its inceptiion in Jan 1992.
Other activities of the Foundation, the Prof highlighted, include organizing conferences, anniversaries of the martyrs, maintaining of their graveyards, training and helping the martyrs’ females child during marriage.
Based on its many activities, the speaker called on all and sundry to continue to be active in contributing the monthly hundred Naira as encouraged by the Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.
In another development Mallam Nura Mafara spoke about a new Foundation set up by the Leader of the Islamic Movement which is saddled with responsibility of sponsoring education of the martyrs’ children.
The new foundation is called Muássaatut Takaliful Aytam ( Orphan foundation). Mallam Nura said its activities and that of Shuhada Foundation are complementary to each other.
He Said Orphan Foundation is more concerned with sponsoring a child education whereby an individual would sponsor a martyr’s child for its education- depending on ones’ s capacity. He said the foundation just serves as an intermediary between the child and the sponsor. The living martyrs are not left out too, he said.
He called on those interested in the sponsoring a child to contact local representative or its chairman for details.
In her speech the Chairperson of the Shuhada Foundation Malama Maryam Sani called on brothers and sisters to remain steadfast on the path of struggle adding that responsibility can be saddled on any follower of Sheikh Zakzaky.
She said when one is given any responsibility, all what is required of him or her, is to do his best in discharging his/her duty while seeking for divine help in doing so.
She added that Shuhada Foundation and Orphan Foundation complement each other adding that monthly contribution for Shuhada Foundation shall continue too as usual.
The Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigerian Sheikh Zakzaky also addressed the gathering via phone. He spoke on martyrdom of Imam Musa Kadheem (as) whom he described as symbol of sacrifice and steadfastness on the path of Allah, adding that the holy Imam was poisoned to death for no offense he committed except these qualities.
He added that martyrs are killed for no offense they commited except their holding to the path of Allah. He also spoke on the killers and their sponsors who shed blood saying that they can never achieve their aim of extinguishing the light of Islam and Islam will really become victorious in the end.
The Leader also sent good message to the families of the martyrs and those awaiting their turn.
