Mallam Adamu Tsoho speaks on the Ethics in Journalism. Print

Journalists are urged to show objectivity and fairness when conducting their work. The call was made by Mallam Adamu Tsoho Jos on Saturday the 3rd of March 2012 during a lecture he delivered to journalists who attended a 3-day conference organized by Almizan Newspaper at Fudiyyah Islamic Center Zaria.

 He explained that a journalist should abide by Ethics and Guidelines of Journalism adding that the aim of journalism  is to enlighten the general public, guiding them and protecting their interest. He called on reporters of Almizan Newspaper in particular to abide by mission of the Islamic Movement.

Speaking on qualities of a Journalists Mallam Adam explained the that a Journalist must be honest, sincere,  show objectivity in reporting and  must not incline to tribal, regional and sectional sentiments. He added that a journalist must be independent.

Other qualities include he must avoid unverified reports and should make sure that he corrects a report in his next edition if he makes mistakes. Protecting identity  of people as the need arises is necessary as well as avoiding provocative words during reports.

Mallam Adamu further called on attendants to maintain neatness in dress and conduct. The act of collecting money from people has been discouraged by the Speaker while describing Journalist as act of amr bil Ma’aruf (encouraging people to doing good acts and avoiding bad ones).

On  Almizan Newspaper Mallam Adamu expressed that the paper has already built trust and confidence of the general public  over the years and its staff should make sure they maintain the good conduct they have been known with.
