Professor Dahiru Memorial Lecture Held in Kano PDF Print E-mail

The 1st Professor Dahiru Yahya memorial lecture, organized by the Resource Forum of Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of his eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), took place at Muhammad Ali Garko Conference Hall, AKTH, Kano on February 12th, 2022.

Invited guests at the Lecture include Professor Abdullahi Danladi, Alh Hytham Prof Dahiru Yahya, Mal Yaya Mustapha, Prof Dahiru Yahya’s wife Malama Bushira Muhammad Yahya, Dahiru Dahiru Yahya (the youngest child of the late Prof Dahiru Yahya), Mr David Osuwe, Prof Isa Mshelgaru, Mal Ibrahim Difa and many more from various cities in Nigeria.
Prof Dahiru Yahya, was a renown historian and Lecturer, who spent over forty years in selfless teaching services in Bayero University Kano from 1970 till his retirement; he was a member of the committee who drafted Nigerian constitution from 1975 to the 1990; member of various developmental services at various level and is also among the followers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky the Leader of the Islamic movement in Nigeria.
He passed away, after a brief illness, on 3rd February, 2021 at the age of 72 and was buried at Ungoggo, Kano cemetery.
Among those who gave a speech or short comment at the occasion includes Mal Yaya Mustapha who is a family member of the deceased. He talked on “The life of Prof Dahiru Yahya”.
Mr David Osuwe spoke on “The life of Prof Dahiru Yahya a role Model” while Prof Abdullahi Danladi spoke on “Prof Dahiru Yahya; A symbol of struggle against oppression”.
The closing remark was delivered by Sheikh Sunusi AbdulKadir Koki who was represented by Mal Yusuf M Abdullahi. More so, Mal Muhktar Giginyu, Barister Haruna Magashi were amongst those that made a brief comment on the life of Prof Dahiru Yahya.
The speakers narrated their experiences regarding their interaction with the deceased; they spoke on his legendary life full of exemplary character.
Mal Yaya Mustapha, who is a family member of the deceased, spoke on care and support the Professor gave to family members and relatives, saying the family are proud of him because of the life well spent by the deceased before his death.
Prof A Danladi in a part of his speech described Prof Dahiru as an icon in History who contributed immensely in academic environment.
Prof Danladi said Yahya has also been a model that is a symbol of struggle against oppression citing different examples. He also said, despite the deceased advance age, he acted like a youth in the struggle against oppression and calling for unity despite differences.
Mr David Osuwe from Makurdi city, Benue, Nigeria in his speech commended the Professor in his struggle to bring unity and selfless service. He mentioned he helped me in paying my Masters degree school fees amounting ninety thousand naira on three occasion, and mentioning a few other help made to him. He also mentioned he has been friendly to him on personal advice and guide despite the difference in cultural and religious background.
Mr David further said Despite the difference in religion, Prof Dahiru Yahya had never cajole me to Islam but answers my questions intellectually and inspiring me to read further giving me references to work on, and I learnt much of Islam from him . With his death, he said “ I just can’t expressed how I was touched and I am still touched praying for his eternal rest in peace.”
In his closing remark, Mal Yusuf Abdullahi encourages all to remain resolute, upright and steadfast on the path of Allah as gradually everyone shall return to Allah. He said “we have heard a lot of good about Prof Dahiru that even after his death, his good virtues shall be remembered.”
Earlier after opening prayers from Hytham the son to Dahiru Yahya, Mal Shuaibu Isa Ahmad read some verses of the Holy Quran.
Dr Dauda Nalado on behalf of the Resource Forum delivered a short speech said the Memorial Lecture is hoped to be held annually.
Mal Muhammad Isa Ahmad who is the chairman of the Kano zone of the Resource Forum gave a Vote of Thanks address with a closing prayers from Mal Ibrahim Difa.
