Students staged a free Zakzaky protest in Abuja on Wednesday the 30th of August 2017. They issued press statement after the protest.

PRESS RELEASE: WE BELIEVE IN GOD AND GOD IS JUST – All we are saying is Free Zakzaky
The world is aware of the unprecedented calamity in the history of Nigeria as a “Nation” – The #ZARIAMASSCARE. It is known to the world that the United Nations Organization made a declaration in its Charter in 1945 for the guarantee of these three basic rights: the right to life as sanctity, the right to human dignity and the right to own private property. The Nigerian constitution devoted the whole Chapter IV to Human and other citizens’ rights, including freedom of conscience, the right to choose your religion, freedom of association, freedom of movement and the right to fair hearing.
We know that when a country makes us a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which that country is acknowledged to be governed, then a constitution exist in the country, it has a body of fundamental principles. But what if we begin to think that our country Nigeria does have a constitution, and is theoretically a “democracy”, those with power are practically above the constituted laws of the state and may do as they please with whomsoever they can. From the lowest ranking Civil Defense officer to the president himself, none is really held accountable for their actions provided he can dance according to the music of the former and present exploiters of our resources. Can we conclude that the only relevant laws in our country at the moment appear to be those of the jungle?
If not, why did the Nigerian Army, under the pretext of a stage managed “traffic offense” murdered over a thousand people in less than forty eight hours including women and children? This is the worst affliction this country has so far suffered: armed Nigerian soldiers killing hundreds of students and unarmed fellow civilians outside combat area in a show of great brutality. What is their crime?
Their crime was standing by their faith and belief in the truth, unity of people and standing with the oppressed. These youngsters believed in respect of humanity and the differences thereof, right of others in general, unity and mutual understanding between Muslims and Christians in the Federation. These points were proved by those in power themselves for their failure to respect the court orders by not releasing Shaikh Zakzaky. And the Movement’s attitude of resorting to the Nigerian Courts is a good evidence for its respect for justice and orderliness, while those in authority and its security agencies proved themselves to be the law breakers.
We believe in GOD and GOD is Just, He is fair and Impartial, He forbids ill treatment and oppression of people and of nature which He has created. GOD Is the Creator of power and He is the power of Shaikh Zakzaky, if you can crush GOD then surely you can crush the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. Government must prosecute all culprits that are involved in the Zaria Massacre irrespective of their position in government.
The Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria hereby calls on peace lovers of the world to rise against oppression, tyranny and terrorism in Nigeria. We should denounce these acts of oppression and impunity perpetrated by those in power against Shaikh Zakzaky and the Islamic Movement, and in unison call for his immediate and unconditional release. We wish to extend our appreciation and gratitude to all lovers of justice and humanity within and outside Nigeria. All we are saying is #FreeZakzaky .
Signed
