Thousands staged a fresh Protest in Abuja today Wednesday the 10th of July 2019 from Aguiyi Ironsi street of Maitama District FCT, Abuja calling for the freedom of the Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky whose health’s condition continues to deteriorate while in detention. During the protest yesterday, two brothers were martyred by security forces at National Assembly Complex.
Several others were injured and arrested. Few minutes later, some media outlets reported that free Zakzaky Protesters attacked security forces with guns. However, according to Punch newspaper it reported that when the Federal Capital Territory Police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, was contacted, he said no policeman died during the clash with the IMN members, He said, “We don’t have any casualty, no policeman died. Why would we hide such a thing? There was no casualty.”
He also denied that the IMN members seized a gun from a policeman. He said, “No police gun is missing, we have no record that the Shiite members snatched guns from our men.”
Despite yesterday’s unprovoked attacked by the Nigerian joint security forces, today’s protesters were chanting various slogans such as ‘ Buhari Free Zakzaky’, ""Guns cannot stop us from protesting" etc.
