Fundraising for victims of state-sponsored crises in Sokoto to take place on Saturday

By Ibrahim Usman
All is now set for the grand fund raising towards assisting the displaced members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, victims of state-sponsored terrorism in Sokoto, this Saturday (18th Rabi’ul Thani, 1436; 07/02/2015).

A statement from the media committee said, the occasion will take place in Sokoto by ten o’clock in the morning, where Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria His Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky will be the guest speaker.

It would be recalled that members of the Islamic movement were brutally attacked by hired thugs sponosored by Sokoto state government, as a result of which their residential buildings and business premises worth millions of naira were either destroyed, vandalized or set ablaze.

Over hundred followers of Sheikh Zakzaky were later arrested and sentenced to more than hundred year’s imprisonment, spread across different prisons in the country.

The incarcerated members who among them was the Ameer of Sokoto, Malam Kasimu Umar and 100 others, were however released in 2014 for lack of concrete evidence linking them to the alleged murder, after spending 6 years in prison custody.
