Day Of The Oppressed: The International Quds Day!

In the name of Allah who states “Glory to (Allah) Who did take His servant for Journey by night from the sacred mosque to the farthest Mosque whose precincts We did bless, in order that We might show him some of Our signs; for He Is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things)” Q17: 1.

May the everlasting peace and blessings of Allah be upon His noble servant, our master Muhammad and his purified progeny.


The Quds day

It could be recalled that Imam Khomeini (may Allah have mercy on him) has declared last Friday of every Ramadan fast as the International Quds day since august, 1979.

The rational is awakening the Muslim Ummah in particular and mobilizing the international community on the condemnable atrocities against humanity committed by the illegal state called Israel. Popularly referred as the day of the oppressed, it symbolizes solidarity commemorated by all people with a common sense of humanity including the non – Zionist Jews! The event is commemorated world over including America, France and central London!

This year’s event has come at a time when the world witnesses yet another brutality against the Palestinians. In its heavy bombardments and intense ground offensive of the Gaza strips tagged “operation protective edge” Israel has heartlessly murdered more than seven hundred Palestinians mostly women and children with thousands of causalities beside unimaginable destruction as ascertained by the so called United Nations. And this brutality is committed in this holy month of Ramadhan!

The more than two weeks senseless attacks have pounded Shejaiya and other areas with artillery, mortars and missiles sparing no hospitals and other humanitarian facilities.

In 2012, similar attack tagged “operation pillar of defense” has left about 150 dead mostly women beside the destruction made by the barbaric state!

To the Muslims, we must remind ourselves that Palestine contains al – Aqsa mosque which was the first qibla (direction) of the Muslims and the mosque was the third holiest from which the prophet had his heavenly journey! The Zionist nefarious activities have apparently thrown the historic mosque to disheartening condition such as deliberate desecration, preventing youths from worship and possible destruction!

Therefore Muslims must know clearly that the issue of Palestine is neither racial nor geographical but that of creed. The prophet (s) said “the believers are like one man; if his eyes suffer his whole body suffers; and if his head suffers his whole body suffers”. So we must share the agony of Palestinians as believers in one faith, hence declaration of the International Quds day.

Secondly, the issue affects all people with sense of humanity as the Palestinians comprises of both Muslims and Christians. Thus, it is imperative to commend the moral and humanitarian support of civil liberties organizations, human rights groups and other concerned nationals to the victims and condemnation of the massacre.


The illegal state at a glance

Establishment of Israel started in 1897 when Theodor Herzl called a Jewish conference for a national land. They discussed among other options Argentina, Uganda, Libya Nebraska and Algeria. However Theodor insisted Palestine as the best location being in a cross road of continents, centre of heavenly religions and most significant deposit of the world abundant resources!

Late Deedat has recorded in his book Arab and Israel: conflict or reconciliation, that in a discussion between Dr. Chaim Weizmann, leader of the Zionist movement in 1992 and Austrian Jew, a journalist named Leopold Weiss on a visit to Jerusalem when the former was surrounded by young fans elaborating the proposed Jewish state, the latter enquired; and what about the Arabs? Meaning, what an injustice to uproot a lawfully settled and majority community! Dr. Chaim responded immediately “We expect they won’t be in a majority after a few years”.

This exposed the initial Zionist plan to eliminate the indigenous Palestinian inhabitants that could be supported by similar utterances credited to their elder statesmen. For example, Golder Meir, former Israeli Prime Minister had deliberately declared “there is no such thing as Palestinians, they don’t exist”.

In his book -Freedom next time, the British journalist John Pilger, wrote “no other country on earth enjoys such immunity, allowing it to act without sanction as Israel. No other country has such a record of lawlessness; not one of the world’s tyrannies comes close. Israel is the undisputed world champion violator of international law”.

To buttress this point, a survey conducted in 1917 showed that Palestine was inhabited by 700,000 with 92% Arab and 8% Jewish population respectively! And the Jews owned less than 1% of the total land area.

Jewish emigration was covertly assisted over the decades by US and Europe. As such, their number continued to increase from 56,000 in 1918 to 540,000 in 1948, the year of its establishment. In the same 1917, the Britain issued the Balfour declaration delivered by then foreign secretary who declared Palestine as Jewish homeland “his majesty’s government views with the favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this objective, it been clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non – Jewish communities in Palestine”.

These words were simply treacherous as the world began to witness brutality and suppression of the Palestinian rights over the years. In 1947, after the Second World War, the United Nations passed a resolution recognizing Palestine as Jewish and Arab states respectively. Europe and Russia vehemently supported the move and so Israel was declared as a full state in 1948.

Thus most horrible terror was unleashed on this defenseless Arab population of the area. For example Menachem Begin who later became its prime minister led a terrorist gang that committed brutal massacre. Just few months to its proclamation, no fewer than 300,000 Arabs were displaced from their towns and villages. And on an attempt to regain control, they were completely defeated by almost doubled military strength with greater ammunition!

On 14th July, 1948 a onetime defense minister Moshe Dayan led a merciless operation pushing out the Arabs shooting at sight. At the end, about 500 villages were emptied of Arab most of which were leveled to rubbles housing the Jews in place. An Israeli newspaper Haaretz, – April, 4, 1969 reported him addressing students at the Haifa Technical school “there is not a single Jewish village in this country that has not been built on the site of an Arab village. The village of Nahial took the place of Mahlotol; Gifat took the place of Giffa …..”

In sabra and shatila alone, about thirty thousand Palestinians were killed in a cold blood! In fact from the establishment of the illegal state to date, the story is that of terror, suppression, looting, murder and general destructions.


The ongoing bloodshed

The Palestinians suffer lots of persecution from time to time. For more than two weeks now, the world helplessly witnesses the Israeli attacks from all directions killing about seven hundreds! The causalities are in thousands not to talk of the destruction!

As usual, America justifies the continued Israeli atrocities as a right to self -protection. Throughout history, it blindly stands by its side even in extreme situations using its veto power! The great conspiracy used in creating and establishing the illegal state originated from the world’s silence over its atrocities for over six decades especially by the Muslim and Arab world leaders of the region.


The middle – east threat

Some questions are imperative here; which country is posing a threat in the middle – east? How can we have a lasting peace in this region? Why is the unquestioned American double standard in tackling crises? And to what extent shall we continue to fold our hands watching these atrocities?

We will use this medium to assure the Ummah that solution to our predicament lies in unity and resistance of domination and suppression as did the courageous Imam when the CIA, SAVAK and MKO worked hard to destabilize his country in collaboration with their internal stooges but emerged victorious with the success of Islamic revolution in 1979!

The increasing poverty, fear, confusion, general insecurity, killings of innocent people, bombings and other forms of terrorist activities in this country could only be tackled with the measures of the late Imam. So our solidarity to the Palestinian is a religious duty of brotherhood “Be not like those who are divided amongst themselves and fall into disputations after receiving clear signs; for them is a clear chastisement” Ali Imran: 3:105.

In the light of the above verse, the prophet has also said “O people, I leave amongst you two things which if you follow you will never go astray. They are the book of Allah and my Ahlul bait – family”.

As we sympathize with Palestinians and indeed all other oppressed of the world on this day, the Islamic movement in Nigeria under the charismatic leadership of sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) calls on all Nigerians irrespective of their religious and tribal inclinations to be very careful not be misled into ethno – religious crises by enemies of humanity and their sponsored stooges!
