The conference hall was filled to the brim with prominent personalities such as lecturers, civil rights activists, veteran journalists and student unions leaders.The conference was lively for a lot of keynote speakers had delivered very powerful lectures.
The speakers include the former governorship aspirant in Lagos, in 2015, Mr Babatunde Olalere Gbadamosi (BOG), Dr Achuke Chude, one of the active members leading the Joint Action Front in Nigeria (JAF), Mr Segun Awosanya, a fellow at the Universal Institutional Reform Advocate.
Moreover, the speakers include, Professor Isa Hassan who was represented by barrister Geofery NetoChuku and Dr Dan Ekere who had also sent his representative.
Among those who chaired the occasion, include the leader of Hausa community in Lagos.The conference centred on how the precious lives of Nigerians are being wasted in a country that claims to be practicing democracy.
The participants at the conference unanimously condemned the illegal detention of Sheikh Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, wife and his followers.They delivered lengthy lectures on the dictatorial policies being implemented at the expense of millions of Nigerians.
Dr Achuke Chude called on the government to, as a matter of urgency, release Sheikh Zakzaky and the brutal persecution of his members must be stopped. Mr Babatunde Olalero Gbadamosi has lamented how the colonialists adulterated the values Hausa and Yoruba communities were known for. He further stressed that the West had applied divide and rule tactics for their interests not ours. He then called for reconciliation and radical reforms in the country.
On his part, Geoffrey NetoChukwu, had condemned shed lights on the barbaric massacre of Shia followers of Zakzaky by the Nigerian army as well as the way some elements have been using terrorists to achieve their own interests.
Mr Shegun Awosanya on his part, shed more lights on oppression is taking place in various segments of the Nigerian institutions and the radical steps to contain it for the sake of the nation’s stability. He presented papers on how the nation should be run. The Hausa community leader on the other hand, expressed his appreciation about the conference, calling on victims of illegal detention to be freed so that sustainable peace could be achieved.
Finally, Prince Adelaja Adeoye lashed out the Buhari administration over its inhumanity it continues to mete out to Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, saying that he would never stop criticising the government until it releases Zakzaky and stops oppressing Nigerians. At the end, he called on concerned Nigerians not to vote for Buhari and his party, APC because they have no other agenda than kowtowing to the interests of the few individuals at the expense of hapless Nigerians whose blood is being shed daily.
After question and answer session, Comrade Shuaib Ahmad Isa shed lights on the responsibility that shoulders on the people towards eradicating tyranny and establishing accountability in governance. He briefly talked about the killings in Benue, Zamfara, Taraba and other places in the country under the guise of Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram or other insurgents. Furthermore, he berated the Nigerian security forces for killing the innocent people they are supposed to protect. He mentioned the killing of a Shiite cleric, Malam Kasim Umar Sokoto of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria as well as the lies spread by the DSS to paint the movement black. He made the remarks before the representatives of police force who were present in the conference hall.
The conference was organized by the Initiative for Conciliation and Right Protection.
