Colossal Impunity Must End In Nigeria -Falana

The popular human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Femi Falana says colossal Impunity must end in Nigeria. He made the remark while addressing a mammoth gathering of Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria,IMN staging a rally at the premises of the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja.

Falana called on the Nigerian government to end impunity as it violates the tenets of democracy and portrays the government in bad light. He expressed gratitude to have found time to add his weight to the protest calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the IMN leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

Calling on the Nigerian government to respect the rule of law, the lawyer, who is also the counsel to Sheikh Zakzaky, called on the government to obey court order.Falana expressed satisfaction with the way the Islamic Movement has remained peaceful in seeking redress despite all forms of intimidations saying, “you are not violent”.

He also shared his past experience when he was jailed by the Buhari Military regime that left him in jail when it was overthrown. He added that he still was part of the team that fought against the illegal detention of President Buhari by the Babangida military junta that overthrew him.

The activist stated that some legal practitioners stayed away from the struggle for the freedom of Buhari then because they said he too had illegally jailed other people. While encouraging the IMN members, Falana called on them never to relent until their leader is freed. He added that he is fully in support of the peaceful protests calling for the release of Sheikh Zakzaky.
