Today in Zaria, Kano and other places holding Ashura Mourning gatherings in Nigeria, Mourners marked the international day of Hazrat Ali Asghar (Abdullahi Radhi), Imam Hussain’s six-month-old son who was martyred on the plain of Karbala.
Each year in Muharram, women with their infants participate in the great mourning ceremonies to commemorate his martyrdom
It was marked in Nigeria, today Friday 6th of September 2019, observed by the mourners.
Abdullah Al-Radi is the youngest son of Imam Hussain (AS) who was uncompassionately sprayed with bunches of arrows by the Army of brute Yazid Ibn Mu’awiya 61 years after Hijrah in the plain of Karbala.
This happened on the 7th of Muharram 61 years after the Prophet’s migration. When water supply to the Imam Hussain (AS) and his pure progeny cut off, the Imam inquired to pity the youngest son for water, upon such a demand they sprayed the young baby with arrows. The Imam in a splits of seconds witnessed blood splitting on his body.
It was on the 7th of Muharram the Commander of Yazid’s forces received orders to cut off all sources of supply to the Holy Imam’s camp and not allow even a drop of water to reach any of the inmates therein. It can better be imagined than described what the condition of Imam Hussain’s camp would have been under the scorching Arabian sun.
The camp was in the midst of the burning desert, with the heat-waves blowing from all sides. The unavailability of water, with nothing to feed even the young children, the wriggling of the babies for milk which the poor mothers, who were themselves suffering from the killing thirst, could not give, caused a distress.
In Kano city among others, the day was observed during today’s mourning. Also, a drama depicting the tragedy were displayed by youths.
