Safar 20th is marked as “Yaumul Arbaeen” ie the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS), the Prophets progeny and his followers in the plains of Karbala, Iraq more than 1400 years ago and todays it’s the largest gathering in the whole world where humanity convey in Karbala mourning the barbaric acts of yazid bin mu’awuya. This year’s official record of those that were in Karbala for the Arbaeen is given at 21,198,640.
Disciples of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky who are unable to attend the Arbaeen at Karabala annually perform a symbolic trek from different axis within the country to Zaria for the Arbaeen mourning with the Prophet Karbala barbaric massacre. After the Zaria December 2015 massacre Sheikh Zakzaky disciples uphold their pledge owing their allegiance to Imam Husain (AS) with the symbolic trek.
It was the case this year, where along different axis the symbolic trek was held in which at around 8am on Saturday 20th Safar, 1444 (17/9/2022) along Kano axis the Symbolic trek was held with thousands of participants from various places from Kano and neighboring states in which the symbolic trek was divided into four zones.
The Echo of Labbaika Ya Husain filled the air mourning the barbaric Karbala killings. People were carrying banners and flyers etc with different message reminding humanity the great atrocities, oppression meted by yazid bin mu’awuya on the Imam Husain (AS), Prophets Progeny and his followers at the plains of Karbala, while mourning with the Prophet and expressing their allegiance to Imam Husain AS and will never betray this rightful path.
The love and affection of Imam Husain was quite great where even disabled, the old and children were not left out in the symbolic trek as well. Camps with names of the six martyred children of his Eminence Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky were setup to serve trekkers with drinks and food during the Trek.
At each of the four designated terminal stopover of this year’s symbolic trek along Kano axis prayers and closing speeches were held in which at karfi stopover Mal Ibrahim Potiskum gave an opening prayer, Ziyarat Arbaeen by Ishaq Muhammad and Ashura songs from Mal Auwal K/Mashi. Sheikh Imam Ya’aqub Kurna gave a closing speech revisiting the atrocities of Ashura in Karbala, lessons from it and what we owe in remaining resolute on this very path.
