In what can be described as a giant move, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky have defied threat by security operatives to join their counterparts around the world to mark the annual International Quds day for the year 2019. Investigation reveals that the procession was marked in 25 towns and cities across Nigeria.
The participants came out en masse to show their unwavering support to the Palestinians. In all where the procession to place, protesters condemned the inhumane treatment of the people of Palestine by the Israeli regime.
However, like other countries where the protest is seen as an avenue to condemn injustice, protesters in Nigeria called for the immediate and unconditional release of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, his wife Malama Zeenah and other detained members of the Islamic across various detention facilities around Nigeria.
The 34 martyrs killed during the 2014 Quds day in Zaria including 3 undergraduate sons of Shaikh Zakzaky were equally remembered.
The protest was marked in major cities like Katsina, Daura, Potiskum, Sokoto, Abuja, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi, Zaria, Lafia, Kaduna, Yola and Jos.
Other towns include Saminaka, Hadejia, Jibia, Malumfashi, Azare, Dutsin-Ma and Dabai.
Others on the list are Wudil, Gashua, Kudan and Malam Madori.
Meanwhile, in Kaduna the protest was attacked by security operatives, leaving 3 injured.
The Quds day which is traditionally marked on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan was set aside by the founder of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomeini to express solidarity to the oppressed people of Palestine
