Since the killing of one Umar of Danmaishiyya by yet to be identified assassins, members of the Movement in Sokoto have been facing series of attack by sponsored thugs.
In 2007 members of the Islamic Movement in Sokoto suffered series of persecution in what is described as state sponsored terrorism of Governor Wammako administration. Since then five members were killed, hundreds of landed properties belonging to the Members were destroyed while over one hundreds are languishing in various prisons in the country. Hundreds of families are taking refuge in neighboring states and towns since the attack.
Despite all the atrocities being committed on the members still normal activities of the Movement goes on as there are still some members in the state. This year's Ashura gathering was conducted in Sokoto as well as Maulid Programmes.
